Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It became the number one streamed music at that moment within just six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music not only brought an interest to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin in the year 2019. Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. But a new band, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the growth and evolution of reggaeton. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and other genres into his songs.
